Showing the idea of improvisation and creation through Polaroids – vizualising the spirit of the Festival for contemporary flamenco „Flamenco Empirico“ which took place in 2009 for the first time ever.
I participated both as a student and an artist in the first edition of the Festival „Flamenco Empírico“ in Barcelona (Mercat de les Flors 2009), curated by Juan Carlos Lérida. As an artist I submitted the idea of the „exhibition in progress“ showing the idea of improvisation and creation through Polaroids. Each day of the festival I took 4 Polaroids and immediately pinned them on the exhibition wall (in total I took approx. 50 Polaroids). At the last evening of the festival I removed all Polaroids and left only the pins. Like landmarks or vanishing memories of Improvisation.
I was invited to take Polaroids wherever and whenever I wanted, I felt very honored. Which was sometimes very funny and disturbing (shhhhikkkkaaaaa, flash, bbbrrrmmm – my Polaroid Camera is not very shy) but welcomed by the participants and artists of this festival. My camera was therefor not only a spectator from outside but made it´s way to the insides of the improvisations through it´s noisy being.
My polaroids were selected the following year as the cover of „La Vanguardia“ (a spanish Newspaper). announcing the second edition of the Festival „Flamenco Empírico“
